The Single Notarial Computerised Index allows notaries to process electronically the periodic dispatchs to the General Council of the Notariat of details regarding the documents notarised at the notaries' offices, to allow them to be processed and subsequently dispatched to each of the recipients in accordance with information obligations, both corporate and those involving authorities. Likewise, assists in the generation of statistics regarding notarial activity, channelling such vital aspects of the legal and economic life of Spain that the Notariat provides to society, as do the Notariats of our most advanced neighbouring countries. Notification of the Single Notarial Computerised Index is performed by means of the Notarial Recognised Electronic Signature (Feren). This Index has the status of a public instrument.

Each fortnight the notaries' offices transfer the documents notarised in order to allow the General Council of the Notariat, via Ancert, to distribute the information to the following key recipients:

• Autonomous regions. For notification of operations with tax relevance.
• Directorate-General for the Land Survey.For notification of operations altering the land survey.
• Local councils and provincial authorities. For notification of operations affecting municipal property gains tax.
• Public registry of commerce, property registration office, foundations, cooperatives, etc. For the knowledg of a large number of acts related to these organizations (constitutions, extensions, sales, powers, appointments and dismissals, etc.)
• General Council of the Judiciary. For the knowledge of procesal powers granted by notaries and know their subsistence.
• State Tax Administration Agency. For knowing about fiscal matters.
• Notarial colleges. For the inherent administration of the colleges.

In addition, the data from the Single Notarial Computerised Index are used by the Centralised Money Laundering Prevention Body and by the Tax Control Body. Both agencies act in behalf of the notaries and collaborate respectively with the Sepblac (Executive Branch for the Prevention of Money Laundering), public prosecution offices and the Tax Agency (AEAT) in combating money laundering and tax fraud. Certain data are also sent to the National Statistical Institute (INE) and to the Ministry of Housing, for producing statistics of interest to Spanish society.

This dispatch is performed via the same channel and format from all notary offices in Spain, having generated a uniform and efficient system for collaboration with Public Authorities.

The service began operation in January 2004, and has ever since then represented a vital system for the fulfilment of notarial obligations. The new Single Notarial Index became operational on 1 January 2007, as an evolution from the previous structure, improving both the content and the transfer frequency of information.
